Summer Newsletter 2023

Hello from all of us here at Kitty’s. We hope you've been handling the summer heat well, we’ve been well here even next to the iron!  The doors have been wide open allowing a gentle breeze through. A few months ago Homegrown Collective, Myerscough college, and CLT planted some beautiful flowers and hanging planters outside. They are in full bloom and adding some wonderful colour and a much needed green corridor to our little road.

Eurovision

Liverpool did an amazing job at hosting Eurovision and we at kitty’s really enjoyed watching organisations and individuals across the city shine. As some of you already know we worked very hard for several weeks in the run up to Eurovision doing mountains of washing for BBC staff re-located here for the production of Eurovision. It was a great success and has boosted the confidence of the team, and what we believe is our commercial contract capability. From this we have formed a Marketing Team of Anthony, Bryn, Grace and Timothy, to try and promote our work further and find more customers who want us to meet their laundry needs.

Annual General Meeting

The launderette team hosted our Annual General Meeting of members (AGM) back in April. This is a key moment in our community co-operatives calendar and a fantastic opportunity to come together to celebrate and reflect on all we have achieved collectivlty in the last year. From the events and activities, to developing our services and initiates to support our local community. None of this would have been possible without your continued and valued support.

The AGM is also an important way to ensure transparency and community accountability of our systems and processes, including the organisations finances. At the AGM We invite input from the members about the direction of the organisation going forward. This and the findings from our customer survey will go on to shape future how Kitty's Launderette develops and improves.

At every AGM some of our community board members retire and new members are elected to join the voluntary board and help shape our future development. We would especially like to thank Brit and Valerie as they stand down from the board, for all of the work they have put in over the past years, and to welcome customer representatives Paula, Suzy and Sue as they embark on their journey as new board members.Membership is open to any who share our values and commitments to local projects and supporting the community, so please pop down and have a chat with any of the co-op members about community membership

Upcoming Events

We have a great selection of upcoming celebrations, exciting launches and a fantastic local market to fill your summer with.

First and foremost, the talented John Thompson will be launching his latest novel ‘Dogs and Other Mammals’ at Kitty’s Launderette. A Liverpool author, John Thompson has written a trio of novels that span from the city's Victorian heyday to the managed decline of the 1980's.

About Dogs and Other Mammals:

Liverpool of the early 1980’s is suffering a managed decline. Brenda Shields is desperate to escape it and the high-rise tenements whose shadow she has never left. Yo-yo might have the means to help his sister realise her ambitions in the form of a drug sniffing chocolate-brown-spaniel, stolen from the prison he has just been released from. He plans to use Seamróg and her innate ability to discover drugs to help his girlfriend kick her habit but will soon find out that Seamróg is going to put him on a course of collision with not only the prison governor but also the drug-dealers fuelling a citywide heroin epidemic.
