Our 2nd birthday: Opening our new room, expanding our services and more!
It’s two years since we opened our doors. The last 18 months have been a challenge that none of us could have predicted. A time of sadness, difficulty and uncertainty – but that has also made us feel proud and grateful to be at the heart of our community, with the chance to help people who need our support, alongside other fantastic local organisations.
We’ve been busy throughout providing some new services, and also working on new plans for the laundry. So we’d like to say a huge thanks to our team, because we really couldn’t have done any of this without them. And to everyone who’s supported us.
We have this week reopened our doors for the public to come in and use the space. You’ll notice a few changes if you haven’t visited us for a while. We’re looking forward to this new time – and here’s a few of the things you’ll see…
1. The amazing new mural on our shutter, by Georgemma Hunt. We held an open call for artists back in January, for which we received 22 different submissions. Georgemma’s colourful design was selected unanimously with our laundry team and completed over the spring months.
2. We’ve also been pressing ahead with our long awaited plans to renovate our back room and expand our launderette space! The thing we’ve missed most in lockdown is being a space for the community to come together, or drop by for a cuppa. This new space will give us plenty of room for lots more community activities and also be the base for some new laundry services.
3. Speaking of which… we’ve been expanding our services for customers and commercial organisations. We’re already doing lots more eco-dry cleaning, and working with cafes, hotels and other organisations to do their laundry. We will be adding more services later this year. If you’d like to find out more, give us a shout. And watch this space!
4. We have been working alongside local organisations Transform Lives Company and The Learning Foundry to explore how we can create opportunities for more young people within our team through the government Kickstart scheme and some work placements. We are really looking forward to how this develops and will share more details on our social media channels in coming months.
5. Our 2nd birthday arrived slightly too early for us to be able to celebrate with you. So we’re looking forward to a summer street party, instead. As the ‘roadmap’ for events and gatherings unfolds, we’ll confirm a date for later in the summer. We’re already planning the music!
6. And finally we want to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported our laundry team in our fundraising run for local charity Love, Jasmine which we completed back in April. Thanks to everyone's generous donations we raised just under 2k to support their fantastic work supporting bereaved families.
We are looking forward to welcoming you back through our doors at some point this summer! Don’t forget, if you want to get in touch about any of our services, or just for a chat, click here to email us or give us a call on 0151 260 8951.
